Black and white portrait of Oliwia Tomczak wearing a floral crown with a plain background

Oliwia Tomczak

is a contemporary Polish painter based in Kalisz. She holds a Master’s degree in Painting from the Adam Mickiewicz University, where she graduated in 2025. Her artistic practice creates a bridge between academic discipline and intuitive expression, focusing on the visceral experience of the medium.

Tomczak’s work explores the subtle, emotional tension between gesture and structure, translating direct observation into expressive, tactile forms. Deeply rooted in her everyday surroundings, her paintings reveal a profound fascination with materiality—the weight of the pigment, the texture of the canvas, and the physical act of painting itself. Through layered brushwork and a nuanced color palette, she transforms fragments of the familiar—landscapes, objects, and fleeting moments of light—into intimate, abstract narratives. Her art invites the viewer to look beyond the representational, offering a space where memory and perception merge into a singular, sensory experience.

Landscapes of My Memory

Landscapes Of My Memory is a monumental diploma cycle by Oliwia Tomczak, consisting of immersive, large-scale canvases (200 x 200 cm). In this series, the artist balances on the thin line between the seascape and the abstract expression of an internal state. A recurring horizon line anchors each composition, yet the true subject is not a specific place, but the color of memory itself. Through dynamic gestures and a nuanced palette of silvers, greens, and blues, Tomczak transforms the physical act of painting into a recording of emotion, inviting the viewer to step into a space where the landscape becomes a feeling.

Nature

In the Nature cycle, Oliwia Tomczak turns to the intimate format (50 x 50 cm) to explore the hidden emotional weight of the everyday. Seemingly mundane elements of our surroundings—a wooden fence, a wire mesh, tree roots, or a canopy—serve here merely as a pretext for a deep, painterly investigation. The artist weaves her observations into expressive, tactile forms, where the brushstroke matters more than the object it depicts. Nature is a subtle collection that reveals how the simplest structures of the organic world can become powerful vessels for human expression and sensitivity.
